The best access platform for industrial use depends on your working environment, height requirements and space constraints. 

For indoor environments such as warehouses or manufacturing facilities, electric scissor lifts are a popular choice. They offer zero emissions, low noise operation and compact dimensions, making them ideal for working safely at height in confined spaces.  

For more complex tasks requiring outreach over obstacles, articulated boom lifts provide greater flexibility. Models such as JCB’s electric and hybrid booms combine strong platform capacity with extended reach, allowing operators to access hard-to-reach areas both indoors and outdoors.

Choosing the right size of scissor lift depends on your working height, site conditions and the type of job you’re carrying out. 

The first step is identifying the platform height you need. As a guide, you should allow an additional 2 metres for working height (to account for operator reach). JCB’s electric scissor lifts typically offer platform heights ranging from around 5.7m up to 13.8m, covering most indoor and light construction applications.  

Next, consider the working environment. For indoor use, compact electric models with narrow widths and non-marking tyres are ideal for tight spaces such as warehouses or commercial buildings. For outdoor use, you may require a larger platform with greater stability and higher weight capacity. 

You should also think about platform capacity. If multiple operators or tools are required at height, ensure the lift can safely handle the load without restricting performance. 

Finally, factor in access and manoeuvrability. Check door widths, aisle space and floor conditions to ensure the machine can easily reach the work area. Compact models are easier to transport and position, while larger units provide greater reach and working space.
