Introducing the New JCB 420X and 520X Heavyline Crawler Excavators
JCB has officially completed its Heavyline tracked excavator line-up with two massive new launches: the 40-tonne 420X and the all-new 50-tonne class 520X. Joining the proven 370X, these powerhouse machines give heavy-application operators three clear steps up the crawler excavator ladder, spanning from 37 to 57 tonnes.
Both new machines share the premium CommandPlus cab, intuitive JCB UX user interface, and JCB LiveLink telematics. This ensures operators experience a seamless transition across the entire X-Series fleet.
The X-Series Heavyline: Engineered for the Toughest Applications
The Heavyline range is built for the work that puts the most demand on a tracked excavator. The 420X and 520X carry that brief forward, with reinforced front-end structures and upgraded undercarriages.
They are the ideal choice for:
- Quarries and Aggregates: Bucket capacity, slew torque and lifting capability built for bench loading, stockpiling and feeding a primary crusher.
- Demolition and Contract Crushing: Reinforced front-ends and optional Heavy-Duty Pro Packs ready for abrasive environments and heavy attachments.
- Mass Excavation and Earthworks: Deeper digging, longer reach and a choice of boom configurations to match every cycle.
- Existing 370X Operators: A natural step up in productivity, lifting capability and slew torque, with a familiar cab and interface.
Key Heavyline USPs: Lower Costs, Maximum Uptime
JCB didn't just build these machines to be stronger; they built them to be significantly cheaper to run. Some of the core benefits that come with this new range include:
Extended Service Intervals: Lower your total cost of ownership with market-leading 2,000-hour hydraulic oil and air filter service intervals.
Auto Boost Technology: Standard across the range, this system automatically delivers short bursts of extra hydraulic pressure when encountering tough material to maintain fast cycle times.
Fuel Efficiency: The latest Stage V engine technology combines with intelligent hydraulic systems to maximize tonnage moved per litre of fuel used.
Stepping Up: 370X, 420X, or 520X – Which Tracked Excavator is for You?
The 420X and 520X sit alongside the established 370X to give Heavyline operators three clear steps up the X-Series tracked excavator range. See our detailed machine breakdown below to discover which tracked excavator is right for you.
The JCB 370X Tracked Excavator
The 37-tonne 370X is the established Heavyline machine that the new 420X has been built on top of. With a 2.34m³ HD bucket as standard, plus the same CommandPlus cab, JCB UX interface and LiveLink telematics now fitted across the range, it remains the right choice at the lighter end of the Heavyline ladder.
Key spec:
- Class: 37-tonne crawler excavator.
- Standard Bucket: 2.34m³ HD.
- Cab: CommandPlus, JCB UX, LiveLink as standard.
The JCB 420X Tracked Excavator
The 420X is engineered for the toughest 40-tonne applications, from aggregate production and contract crushing to demolition, earthmoving and quarrying. A 240kW (321hp) Stage V six-cylinder diesel delivers 1,526Nm of torque, and a higher engine speed than the 370X lifts hydraulic flow for smoother multi-tasking when digging and lifting in the same cycle.
Key spec:
- Engine: Stage V six-cylinder diesel, 240kW (321hp).
- Standard Bucket: 2.6m³ HD with Earthmoving Pro Pack.
- Reach: Offers over 940kg of extra lifting capacity at maximum reach
- Auto Boost: Standard, for short bursts of extra hydraulic pressure.
The JCB 520X Tracked Excavator
At the top of the range, the new 520X opens up the 50-tonne class to X-Series customers. With an operating weight of 52 to 57 tonnes depending on build, it takes the range into a brand-new market segment. Power comes from a Cummins X12 11.8-litre diesel, with twin variable displacement axial piston pumps each pushing 404 l/min of hydraulic flow.
Key spec:
- Engine: Cummins X12 Stage V diesel, 298kW (400hp).
- Versatility: Choice of a 6.9m standard or 6.5m mass excavation boom, with buckets scaling up to 3.4m³.
- Undercarriage: Fixed 2,740mm or variable 2,390mm to 2,890mm gauge.
