JCB Single Drum Soil Compactors

Power comes from JCB’s robust 430 diesel engine, delivering 55kW. Impressively, it achieves emissions compliance without the need for Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) or Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems - making the VM118D the first and only Stage V or Tier 4 soil compactor in the over-10-tonne class that operates DEF-free. This keeps running costs down, reduces complexity, and simplifies both operation and maintenance for owners.

The high-torque engine pairs with a 4-mode traction control system that includes work, travel, gradient, and PD shell modes, providing the capability to tackle gradients up to 55%. The drum offers adjustable frequencies of 32Hz and 36Hz, two amplitude settings of 1.8mm and 0.8mm, and centrifugal forces of either 256kN or 147kN, giving operators the flexibility to match performance to site conditions.

For enhanced productivity and precision, the VM118D can be equipped with JCB’s INTELLICOMPACTION system, while standard connectivity comes via JCB LiveLink telematics -  included free for the first five years.

Under the wide-opening hood, the engine bay is intelligently laid out for quick ground-level servicing. The compact engine layout also allows for a low bonnet profile, which ensures excellent rearward visibility.

Inside, operators benefit from a redesigned ROPS/FOPS cab that features JCB’s latest ergonomic upgrades. Flat glazing all around lowers replacement costs if damaged, while a 7-inch JCB UX touchscreen - the same as used in the new X-Series excavators -  puts machine controls at the operator’s fingertips via an intuitive rotary dial. Standard cab features include front and rear LED work lights, four integrated amber beacons, flat glass panels, and roof-mounted air conditioning and heating. An optional safety pack adds road lights, a white-noise reverse alarm, and an immobiliser for added security.
