With more than 40 years of experience in the construction industry, A King Contracts Ltd is a well-established and respected groundworks contractor. Founded by Andy King and now supported day-to-day by his son Robert, the company represents a strong family business built on consistency, experience, and long-term relationships.

From Experience to Trusted Business

Andy King’s Journey into running his own company began after many years working within the industry. When circumstances changed, he decided to establish A King Contracts Ltd independently – a move that would shape the next four decades of his career.

“I just started on my own,” Andy explains. “I’d been working within the industry for years, and from there it just snowballed.”

A Fleet Built on Reliability and Versatility

A King Contracts Ltd operates a modern, hardworking fleet of JCB machinery, all supplied by Scot JCB. The fleet includes excavators, dumpers, and a telehandler – all selected to ensure efficiency and flexibility across a variety of site requirements.

One of the most recent additions is a JCB 25Z-1 mini digger, chosen specifically for its versatility. “It’s a good size, easy to move, and ideal for tighter working areas, and it’s more practical for certain jobs than larger machines,” said Robert King.

The machine was quickly put to work after being collected from Scot JCB Headquarters in Glasgow, reinforcing the importance of having the right equipment readily available when projects demand it.

A Long-Standing Relationship with Scot JCB

Andy’s relationship with Scot JCB dates to the very first machine he purchased, a JCB 3C Backhoe, marking the beginning of a partnership that has continued to grow over the years.

“The back-up service has always been very good,” Andy added. “There’s always someone there to answer the phone when you need them.”

The relationship is further strengthened through close collaboration with Scot JCB Sales Engineer David Stevenson, whom Andy and Robert speak highly of. They describe David as having “an approachable manner and an in-depth understanding of their business needs.”

The consistency of support, combined with long-standing relationships with Scot JCB, has played a key role in the company’s continued success.  Andy explained, “You get to know the people, not just the machines, that makes a big difference.”

Beyond the day-to-day business, Andy and Robert have remained closely connected with Scot JCB through industry events, JCB factory visits and customer experiences -further strengthening the partnership.

Service and Support That Keeps Projects Moving

For A King Contracts Ltd, dependable parts availability and responsive service support are essential. Andy emphasised, “It’s really vital to our business, knowing parts and support are there when you need them, it gives you a real peace of mind.” This reliability allows A King Contracts to focus on delivering quality work, confident that support is always close at hand.

Looking to the Future

With long-term working relationships in place and a strong, reliable fleet, A King Contracts Ltd continues to move forward with confidence. The business remains focused on maintaining high standards, supporting its workforce, and investing in equipment that meets the demands of modern groundworks projects.
When asked to describe the relationship with Scot JCB in a single word, Robert’s answer was simple: “Lifelong.”
